In partnership with McKesson and the US Oncology Network, NexCore Group developed the new Arizona Oncology – Prescott Cancer Center, a modern facility designed to elevate cancer care across Arizona’s quad-cities region.

Opening on October 16, 2023, the 23,000-square-foot, single-story center replaces an outdated, capacity-constrained facility—providing the space, technology, and patient environment needed to meet current demand and support future growth.

From site selection to design to construction, NexCore led the full project lifecycle, ensuring the vision for a state-of-the-art, community-centered cancer facility became a reality.

The Challenge

Arizona Oncology’s prior facility presented critical limitations:

  • Insufficient Capacity: Limited space hindered patient throughput, program expansion, and service integration.
  • Facility Constraints: The building’s configuration made it impractical to add new technology or consolidate services.
  • Capital Inefficiency: Expanding on the existing site would have required disproportionate investment for minimal operational gain.
  • Location Risks: A potential alternate site was evaluated but found to have development limitations.
  • Patient Outmigration: Without local expansion, more patients would seek care in Phoenix or Flagstaff—adding travel burdens and reducing continuity of care.

Arizona Oncology needed a new facility that could consolidate services, enhance patient experience, and strengthen their competitive position in Northern Arizona.

NexCore’s Solution

NexCore’s approach combined strategic site selection, collaborative design, and efficient delivery to create a future-ready cancer care destination:

  • Prime Location: NexCore identified and secured an accessible site with excellent visibility, proximity to referring providers, and room for expansion.
  • Purpose-Built Design: Working with architect Corgan, NexCore designed a space that improves patient flow, maximizes operational efficiency, and integrates advanced treatment capabilities.
  • Operational Alignment: The facility was tailored to Arizona Oncology’s workflow requirements, supporting both the local practice and the broader US Oncology Network.
  • Scalable Infrastructure: Designed with expansion in mind, the building can accommodate up to two additional linear accelerators (LINACs) as service demand grows.
  • Construction Excellence: Partnering with Loven Contracting, NexCore delivered the project on time and slightly under budget—minimizing disruption and accelerating patient access.

Results

The Arizona Oncology – Prescott Cancer Center now serves as a regional hub for comprehensive oncology care, offering:

  • 36-Chair Infusion Area: Designed for patient comfort, with natural light and an adjoining outdoor healing garden.
  • 17 Exam Rooms: Supporting medical, gynecologic, and radiation oncology services.
  • PET-CT Imaging Suite: Providing on-site diagnostic capability to reduce patient travel and improve coordination of care.
  • Future Expansion Capability: Infrastructure ready for additional treatment technology, ensuring long-term service growth.

A Lasting Impact on Regional Cancer Care

With this facility, NexCore helped Arizona Oncology and the US Oncology Network strengthen local access to advanced cancer care—reducing the need for long-distance travel, attracting top-tier clinical talent, and building a platform for future growth.

Delivered on time, under budget, and aligned with both clinical and operational priorities, the Prescott Cancer Center underscores NexCore’s ability to translate vision into reality—improving lives while delivering lasting value.
